Coloboma of the Iris
This is usually a hereditary condition caused by the failure of the optic cup to close completely during fetal life. It may also be associated with eye trauma or may appear after an eye surgery. It may appear as a cut in the iris giving the iris an irregular shape or it may look like a black hole in or near the iris.

The condition is usually diagnosed after birth. It is commonly associated with some inborn abnormalities and mental retardation.

The affected individual experience blurring of vision; rapid, involuntary oscillatory movement of the eyeball, squint, and intolerance to light.

There is no treatment for the condition. Cosmetic contact lenses or sunglasses can be used.
